Tattoos

One hushed cry in the middle of the night, and Eli Thorson's life unravels. A highly trained Black Ops specialist, he is used to danger, but Eli's path forces him to confront the illusions he’s been taught his whole life -- ones that make him question all the good he thought he was doing.
Unable to work for a command that defiles the oaths he swore, he works to untangle the web of lies and deceit he finds woven throughout his worlds. The tattooed marks of his profession run more than skin deep. As a Specialist it is his duty to protect the people, the laws, and all the United Earth Government stands for, even if it means taking down the entire Black Ops division to do it.

I have been jonesing for a good sci fi book for so long. And I finally got it! Tattoos is sci-fi like Star Trek. A world federation with humanity living on several planets with noble goals and an honorable mission. Peace is kept through the use of a small elite police/military force with an above board system that is monitored and the agents themselves are volunteers.

Already I'm in love. Thinking back to the 80s watching Star Trek with it's mixed race crew where everyone is treated equally and positions are awarded according to merits. Where politicians worry about their people and sacrifice for the better good.

But of course, like in Star Trek something has to go wrong. And in the case of this story, it's the system. Maybe? Kinda? Or is it? And that's where I fell in love. Eli is a Black Ops Specialist. But he has both a heart and a brain. And he starts putting two and two together, and keeps coming up with 5. He knows something is wrong. But he also knows that he has to act alone, just in case he got it wrong. So he goes rogue.

And I do so love a rogue fighting for what's right. There's also a love interest, which throws him slightly for a loop, but it never gets mushy and he never compromises his integrity for her. Which I also love. There's a smidge of possible romance, but this story is all about one man doing what is right and honorable with the help of good hearted people who also want to know the truth. It's an excellent  story that I highly recommend to anyone that has ever loved Star Trek or Robin Hood.

5 out of 5 stars and I hope she writes another one
